Why I Chose to Become a CPA
As a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), I am tasked with helping people make sound financial decisions and am entrusted with highly personal information. It is important that I build relationships with the people I work with and establish trust. To that end, I would like to share with you how I decided to become a CPA.
My Entry Into The World Of Accounting
It began on my daddy’s dairy farm. When I was 18 years old, he handed me the General Ledger to pay the bills and I found I loved working with numbers. To me, it’s like solving a puzzle which is something I really enjoy doing. My motto became, “I work wonders with numbers, but words will often escape me.”
So, What Exactly Is A CPA?
As defined by the IRS, a Certified Public Accountant is designation for individuals who are licensed by their state boards of accountancy and have passed the Uniform CPA Examination. While CPAs are often associated with tax preparation, they may also provide a range of services such as financial planning or auditing.
Certified Public Accountants have unlimited practice rights before the IRS, which means they can handle any type of tax matter or represent any type of taxpayer without restrictions. They can also represent tax clients before any IRS office in the event of an IRS letter or IRS examination.
What Does That Mean For You?
What services can I provide? I handle taxes and tax matters for individuals and business, as well as handling sales and payroll tax and filings. I also help businesses with their accounting. Business owners are experts at running their business, but not necessarily experts at keeping their books. Their time is better invested in running their business than staying current on the bookkeeping and it is easy to fall behind. I can take over the bookkeeping on a monthly basis. I will prepare monthly financials for you and go over them with you which is vital so you understand the health of your finances. Or, I can come in quarterly and reconcile the accounts and print quarterly financials. Of course, if you find yourself in need of financials at the last minute, I can prepare them annually as well.
Non-profits
I not only work for profit industries, but I have worked for many non-profits and have become an expert on their special needs. For example, I worked with a very large temple with over 1500 members, a $6.5m budget, $6.5m in endowments, 2 school locations and a mausoleum. That place kept me very busy and provided the opportunity to learn a lot about the needs of non-profits.
Moved To South Lake County
I had been working in South Florida until my world got a bit shook up in 2015. I took a deep breath and a leap of faith to go back into business for myself in South Lake County. I moved here in August 2015, joined the South Lake Chamber of Commerce in June of 2016, and grew my business by networking and word of mouth referrals. I was voted Best Accountant/CPA in the South Lake Business Awards in 2017, 2018, and 2019. I truly appreciate the trust the local residents and business owners have put in me.
